Boston’s First Night celebration will not happen in-person this year due to the coronavirus pandemic
Local television stations will carry a broadcast-only version of the event featuring an "array of performances."
Another Boston tradition has been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
First Night Boston 2021 will be a broadcast-only event this year, with no in-person celebrations happening downtown to ring in the new year.
“Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, we are unable to gather crowds in Copley Square and the Back Bay for the traditional entertainment and attractions that bring joy to so many,” First Boston wrote on its website. “We invite you to tune in to our broadcasts and ring in 2021 with the hope, unity, and optimism that we’re ready to embrace.”
