Boston’s rich history, vibrant neighborhoods, and delicious food make it a top destination this year, according to Tripadvisor users.
The Needham-based travel website released its Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best Destinations on Tuesday, and Boston made the cut in two categories: top destinations in the U.S. and top destinations for food in the U.S..
The awards, based on the quality and quantity of ratings and reviews from users between Oct. 1, 2024 and Sept. 30, 2025, were divided into six categories: top destinations, trending destinations, food destinations, culture destinations, honeymoon destinations, and solo travel destinations.
The top destinations have “everything travelers are looking for and more,” wrote Tripadvisor.
The city of Boston, which ranked No. 10 among top destinations in the U.S., and No. 8 among top destinations in the U.S. for food, is full of history and has distinct neighborhoods worth exploring, wrote Tripadvisor.
“In Boston, you can bump into American history any time you step out the door. Case in point: Walk the city’s brick-lined Freedom Trail to see landmarks that teleport you back to the Revolutionary War,” wrote the site. “But historic sites are just the start. Every neighborhood has its own vibe that’s worth getting to know.”
New York City was the top ranking spot on both the top U.S. destinations and top U.S. food destinations lists.
Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel, according to the site, and fewer than 1% of its 8 million listings achieve the milestone.
Conde Nast Traveler also named Boston one of the best places to go in 2026, noting its rich history, delicious food, and epic events (think 2026 Sail Boston and the 2026 FIFA World Cup). And Afar magazine posted the article “Why we’re flocking to Boston in 2026,’ lauding the city’s restaurants, green spaces, arts, and special celebrations planned this year.
