Who says you need to book New Year’s Eve plans way in advance?

Some destinations are perfect for booking at the eleventh hour, according to Time Out, which just named Boston among the 8 best last-minute New Year’s Eve getaways in the U.S.

The destinations on the list are “surprisingly doable, even at the last minute,” wrote Time Out, thanks to “a mix of easy airport access, enough hotel inventory to avoid panic pricing and an array of celebrations that feel lively without tipping into full-blown chaos.”

Here’s why Time Out put Boston on the list:

Boston is one of the easiest big cities to pull off for New Year’s Eve thanks to strong flight, train and drive-in access—and a compact, transit-friendly downtown once you arrive. The city’s long-running First Night Boston celebration has been ringing in the new year since 1976, filling the city with live performances, art, ice skating and two fireworks displays (one early in the evening and one at midnight). But for those craving more party energy, Boston delivers with DJ-driven celebrations and late-night shows at spots like the Beehive and Spy Bar, where live music and good vibes keep the momentum going well past midnight.

For those seeking accommodations, Time Out recommended staying at The Liberty Hotel, housed in the former Charles Street Jail, which is hosting a New Year’s Eve bash called Euphoria.

Other destinations on the list include Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Fort Worth, Texas; and Denver, Colorado. Check out Time Out’s list of 8 best last-minute New Year’s Eve getaways in the U.S.

Conde Nast Traveler named Boston one of the best places to go in 2026 due, in part, to events planned in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
