Boston is full of history, museums, sports — and solo travelers, according to a new report.
Boston is No. 2 among a recent ranking of the 15 best solo travel destinations in the U.S. by OpenTable and Kayak. Boston was second only to Washington, D.C.
The study examined solo bookings at restaurants and hotels in major cities across the nation and also looked at affordability, safety, and cultural attractions.
Travelers into nightlife, history, and tours should head to Washington, D.C. while travelers into museums, sports, and “walking in pahks” should head to Boston, says the study.
As for affordability, while Boston’s food and hotels are more expensive than in Washington, D.C., the average cost of flights into Boston are lower than those going into our nation’s capital, the study found.
On average, travelers in Washington, D.C. can expect to pay $362 for a roundtrip flight, $275 for a hotel per night, and $47 per meal per person, according to the study, while in Boston travelers can expect to spend, on average, $329 for a roundtrip flight, $350 for a hotel per night, and $59 per meal.
OpenTable’s picks for the best restaurants for solo diners in Boston are: Beacon Hill Books & Cafe, La Pizza & La Pasta, Little Whale, and Shy Bird — South Boston.
