Boston is one of the most popular destinations in the nation for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, and it’s also among the most affordable, according to a report by HomeToGo.
The vacation rental search engine recently released a ranking of the 15 most affordable and popular St. Patrick’s Day destinations in the U.S. and Boston ranked No. 10. Milwaukee took the No. 1 spot.
“For American travelers prioritizing keeping costs low and spirits high, we’ve ranked the top destinations for celebrating closer to home, without making or paying for the transatlantic trek [to Ireland],” said Eleanor Moody, travel expert at HomeToGo, in a statement. “From epic parades to time-honored traditions, this guide gives U.S. residents a map of the top spots in which to join in on value-packed St. Patrick’s Day fun.”
Boston scored a 22.5 out of 30 in the report, which included scores between 1 and 10 in the categories of price, savings, and popularity. Milwaukee scored a 26.9.
HomeToGo says it comprised the list by first considering locations with established and renowned St. Patrick’s Day parades and celebrations. Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, taking place March 16, attracts up to a million visitors annually.
Boston scored its best in the popularity category, with a 9.1 out of 10. Only Chicago and New York City scored higher in the top 10. To determine popularity, HomeToGo analyzed search volume for stays with a check-in date between March 10 and March 24 for each destination.
HomeToGo’s median price per night per person for a Boston stay during the two weeks surrounding St. Patrick’s Day in 2025 is $116.95, according to the report, and Boston scored a 5.9 out of 10 in the price category. Milwaukee is the most affordable, with a $58.54 cost. Price data was collected in February.
Boston travelers save 79 cents on HomeToGo rentals during the two week period surrounding St. Patrick’s Day over a standard two week period, according to the report, so Boston scored a 7.5 out of 10 in the category of savings. Chicago ranked the worst in this category among the top 10.
Travelers are saving the most in Scranton, Pennsylvania, which ranked No. 5 on the list, with folks paying $61.95 and saving $30 during the St. Patrick’s Day period.
