Boston is alluring in the summertime, but several other U.S. destinations are more popular among travelers this year, according to Tripadvisor.
Boston ranked No. 10 on a list of top 10 most popular domestic summer travel destinations in the Needham-based travel website’s annual Summer Travel Index. The No. 1 summer travel destination in the U.S. is Las Vegas, according to the site.
American travelers are seeking entertainment, sporting events, and adventure this summer, the report noted.
“As travel continues to defy expectations, we’re seeing an uptick in travel intent, with consumers channeling discretionary spending toward vacations and experiences, despite increasingly squeezed household budgets for many,” Alice Jong, senior research analyst at Tripadvisor, said in a statement. “Travel consumers want to see new places and engage in new experiences, exemplified by the one-third of travelers planning to explore a destination for the first time.”
Here are the top domestic popular summer travel destinations for U.S. travelers, according to Tripadvisor:
1. Las Vegas
2. Myrtle Beach, S.C.
3. Orlando, Fla.
4. Honolulu, Hawaii
5. New York City
6. Chicago
7. Key West, Fla.
8. Ocean City, Maryland
9. San Diego
10. Boston
The top three global summer travel destinations for U.S. travelers are Cancun, London, and Punta Cana, according to the report.
The results of the Summer Travel Index were determined by a Tripadvisor Consumer Sentiment Survey of more than 2,400 consumers conducted March 13-18 and also site behavioral data collected between Feb. 1 and April 15 for travel between June 1 and August 31.
