Boston walking tour
-

1. Grab your map (or fully charged phone–come on, it’s the 21st century), and begin at Fenway Park. Take a walk around the stadium, and head north along Brookline Avenue, across the bridge.
-

2. Walk through Kenmore Square, “the gateway to Boston University,” dodge Red Sox fans, and take a right down Commonwealth Avenue. Head east toward downtown.
-

3. Head down Commonwealth Avenue to check out some of the achitecture typical to the Back Bay.
-

4. Cut over to the Esplanade, just a few blocks north of Commonwealth Avenue. The walk along the Charles is beautiful, and the view of Cambridge never quite gets old.
-

5. Follow the bridge over Storrow Drive to the Boston Public Garden, and continue east through another scenic part of Boston.
-

6. Cross Charles Street into Boston Common, and follow any of the paths north.
-

7. Hit the Massachusetts State House, perched on top of Beacon Street. Follow the curve of Beacon Street around until you hit the intersection with Tremont Street.
-

8. Tremont Street can often transform into a wind tunnel, so be careful not to get swept away. Head north along the Freedom Trail.
-

9. Eventually you’ll hit City Hall Plaza, which is easily identified by the Brutalist architecture of City Hall. At least the square is getting a glassy new T stop at Government Center.
-

10. Cross the plaza, and head down the steps into the realm of tourist town. Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market may be riddled with selfie sticks and street performers, but it’s one of Boston’s most beloved sites for a reason.
-

11. Once you pass through to the other end of Quincy Market, cross the street to the waterfront at Christopher Columbus Park. The area is a great place to stop and catch your breath.
-

12. At the end of the park, follow Commercial Street along the harbor wharves until Hanover Street appears on the left. Turn to navigate through the heart of the North End. Stopping for food is advised.
-

13. Once at the end of Hanover Street, walk through the North End Park, and cross back through City Hall Plaza. This time take a right, and follow Cambridge Street around the back of Beacon Hill.
-

14. Head up one of the arteries of the Beacon Hill neighborhood: Joy Street. Take a right onto Mount Vernon Street, and enjoy the red brick surroundings.
-

15. Take a slight detour off Mount Vernon Street, down Willow Street to find the most photographed street in America, Acorn Street. You’ll see why.
-

16. Walk down Beacon Hill onto Charles Street, and follow it down toward the Public Garden again. Retrace your steps through the Garden toward Back Bay. Be sure to check out the George Washington Statue on the way.
-

17. Walk down Newbury Street, and check out some of the new stores. At the end of Newbury, take a left onto Massachusetts Avenue.
-

18. Follow Massachusetts Avenue south until the Christian Science Center looms large on the left. Walk along the reflection pool to the end.
-

19. Enter the Prudential Center building, and find your way to the elevators to the Top of the Hub, the restaurant at the top of the building. Get yourself a drink. You’ve earned it.
