Disney World bans selfie sticks
“Unfortunately selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast.’’
If you’re planning a trip to Disney World this summer, then don’t bring your selfie stick.
The company announced on Friday that it would be banning the picture-taking accessory from its theme parks, an official told the Orlando Sentinel.
“We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family,’’ said Kim Prunty, a Disney World spokeswoman. “Unfortunately, selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast.’’
The policy will be instituted at various Disney World theme parks starting on Tuesday. The company said it will checking bags to make sure that patrons aren’t sneaking in the poles to take selfies.
The Disneyland Resort in California will adopt the ban beginning on June 30 while parks in Paris and Hong Kong are set to roll it out on July 1.
Disney World isn’t the only one to ban the use of selfie sticks. Universal Orlando has banned the accessory from certain rides at its parks, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
