Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish Festival of Lights, takes place December 16 to December 24. There are plenty of ways to celebrate around Boston and some of them are even free (free latkes, anyone?).

Governor-elect Charlie Baker and Mayor Marty Walsh helped light the menorah on the first day of Hanukkah Dec. 16. It will be lit every night throughout the holiday. Here is the schedule.

Community Channukah Shabbat Dinner, December 19, Tremont Street Shul, Cambridge

There will be a family/kids’ service at 5:30 p.m.
Enjoy a musical shabbat davening and spirited shabbat dinner at Tremont Street Shul December 19. The festivities begin at 5:15 with a tehillah style davening. There will be a family/kids’ service at 5:30 p.m. and an egalitarian davening at 5:45 p.m. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy latkas, sufganiyot, dreidels, and more. Top off your Hannukah celebration with The Moo Shu Jew Show, which is back in Boston for its fourth year. The Meshugganah show was created for Jews to enjoy on Christmas Eve in a, wait for it … Chinese restaurant. It is an evening of Jewish-inspired stand up comedy and dinner, paired with Chicken Kung Pau and Vegetable Lo Mein (no shellfish or pork, of course). Comedians Harrison Greenbaum, Josh Gondelman, Adrianne Tolsch, and Cory Kahaney will entertain guests.
