Snag a $20 Duck Tour Monday

Happy 20th birthday, Boston Duck Tours!

Yes, it’s been 20 years since the first duck tour took to Boston’s streets on October 6, 1994. Since then, 9 million people have taken the iconic ride through Boston (even a few locals). To celebrate its 20th year, the company is offering $20 rides on Monday only — a $15 savings per ticket.

“It’s an offer that people aren’t going to see probably ever again,’’ said Bob Schwartz, director of marketing and sales for Boston Duck Tours, with a laugh. “Some people find it a little expensive so it’s a great way to take a tour and save.’’

There is, of course, a catch.

You can’t buy your tickets online. You actually have to physically get yourself to a ticket booth Monday morning and get in line. Schwartz recommends arriving at 8 a.m., though the discount tickets won’t be offered until 8:30 a.m. The tickets will be offered all day from its three departure locations — the Museum of Science, Prudential Center, and New England Aquarium.

“We only have a limited amount of availability each day, so once they sell out, they sell out,’’ said Schwartz.

There are 3,900 tickets available across all three departure locations Monday. Each tour, carrying 36 guests, departs every half hour to an hour between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The tours happen rain or shine. Plastic siding on the vehicle goes up when the rain comes down.

The advantage of taking an October tour, said Schwartz, is the opportunity to leaf peep in the city, said Schwartz.

“People don’t think of foliage on city tours as something you see, but you get a really great view of the Esplanade,’’ Schwartz said.

The WWII-style amphibious vehicle is famous for riding right into the Charles River for a duck’s eye view of the city after showing guests famous city spots.

Can’t make it Monday? You’ll pay full price, but can still catch a tour from the Museum of Science and the Prudential Center through November 30. Then tours continue on weekends only through Christmas. The New England Aquarium tours stop November 2.
