Disney Springs Renovation Underway
Downtown Disney is about to get a huge, multi-year makeover.
It is in the middle of its largest expansion in Downtown Disney’s 30-plus year history: the addition of Disney Springs, to be completed in 2016. The new space will include four interconnected neighborhoods within the park, providing guests with even more room to relax while doubling the shopping, dining, and entertainment selections.
Disney Springs will feature a mix of eclectic and contemporary Disney and will be modeled after Florida’s vibrant lakeside towns and landscapes. The expansion will include widening Lake Buena Vista Drive, constructing two multilevel parking garages and two pedestrian bridges, and creating a new I-4 interchange with direct access to the new park.
The segments of the park are The Landing (which will open in 2015), Marketplace, West Side, and Town Center. The focal point, Town Center, will celebrate local resources that attracted early settlers to the state, including a series of natural bubbling springs, and will offer a mix of shopping and dining along the promenade. The Landing is inspired by the waterfront and will highlight a colorful and thriving commercial district as well as seaside dining. Marketplace will offer a family-friendly experience with an over-the-water pedestrian causeway and an expanded Disney Store. West Side will house a range of new entertainment as well as elevated spaces and shaded areas perfect for relaxing.
When the project is complete, Disney Springs will expand from 75 to over 150 shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues with some of the world’s most iconic brands and companies.
