Why You Should Travel to Troll’s Tongue
If you love challenging hikes, mountains, and bizarre-named places, Troll’s Tongue in Norway may be the perfect destination for you.
Trolltunga (known as Troll’s Tongue) is a tongue-shaped rock that juts out horizontally from a mountain above lake Ringedalsvatnet in Skjeggedal Valley in Norway. It is 1100 meters above sea level and one of the most spectacular scenic cliffs in Norway.
The challenging hike to the tongue and back takes about 8 to 10 hours. You’ll need sturdy hiking boots, extra clothing, a map, compass, food, and drink. Be prepared for bad weather. There’s no cellphone service along the route.

This trek is different than the trail used by “the masses.’’ You’ll deviate from the main trail and be rewarded with picturesque waterfalls, famous mountain formations, and wild rivers. The path offers varying levels of intensity. At some points, you’re scaling rock using ropes and cables, and at others you’re following reindeer tracks and marveling at a very old farm built by monks.
