A man walked past Minus5 Ice Bar during a media preview on July 9 in New York City. The bar, which opened this month, is built from 90 tons of ice, kept at 23 degrees Fahrenheit and can hold 55 people. A similar ice bar is slated to open in Boston later this summer.

Kevin Parker, left, and other customers explored the VIP room. “On a hot day it’s exactly what the city needs,” said Parker, a real estate broker who plans to book his birthday party at the bar. The city’s first ice bar is now open at the Hilton Hotel on Sixth Avenue. Admission includes Eskimo-style gloves, parkas and boots for the privilege of drinking cocktails in the freezing Minus 5 Ice Bar.
