Taking travelers far beyond their local supermarket

Whole Foods Market’s new Whole Journeys can land you in a local market in China. KATHY DRAGON/WHOLE JOURNEYS

Whole Foods Market is about to take “going local’’ to a whole new level. Its new venture, Whole Journeys, will take discerning foodies around the globe starting in April. The small-group trips will combine physical pursuits with cultural and gastronomic experiences. Think white-water rafting on the Main Salmon River in Idaho, then winding down at camp with a local micro brew as a chef prepares locally sourced meals; hiking along the ancient Tea and Horse route in China, then taking part in ancient tea ceremonies at their source; or cycling through vineyards and olive groves in Provence, wending your way to charming villages to learn the secrets of regional cuisine from local chefs.
