Shuffleboard in St. Petersburg, Fla.
On Friday nights downtown, you’ll find folks of all ages attempting to “send the biscuit.’’ No, they’re not hurling food. These shuffleboard players are trying to land their disks in the scoring zone at the St. Pete Shuffle, a free night of playing (equipment included). The weekly event, with local bands on the scene monthly, has turned the once-mocked game cool and revived the 1924 city-owned facility with its 65 courts and clubhouse. Christine Page, president of the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club, said, “It’s a family thing. It’s a hipster thing.
