Green Cay’s delightful mile-and-a-half boardwalk (left) teams with access to waterfowl, turtles, birds, and more. Pop into the Boynton Beach center to see a turtle pond, movie, and gift shop.

Reptiles, owls, and birds of prey abound at the hands-on Okeeheelee Nature Center in West Palm Beach with its 2½ miles of trails through wetlands and pine flatwoods.

The Wakodahatchee Wetlands (right) in Delray Beach is a fine union between the county water utilities department and nature with a ¾-mile boardwalk over ponds that are part of the water-filtering system.

The vast Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge about 10 miles west of Boynton Beach is a piece of the Everglades with trails, observation platform, 12-mile bike path, visitors center, butterfly garden, and tours.
