How to get there
Fly into Guadalajara, then take a bus or cab ($50-$75) 40 miles to Tequila.
Where to eat
The best options are stalls and carts in and around Mercado Francisco Javier Sauza and Mercado Cleofas Mota. The markets occupy a corner at the intersection of José María Morelos and Niños Heroes. Tacos and a drink cost a few dollars. Steak and seafood dishes cost around $10.

Step inside the chapel and you might just get the feeling that you have stepped into the best bar in Mexico, but the real reason to come is owner Javier Delgado, 89. Order a batanga or a tequila straight up ($5-$10) and settle in.
What to do
Set up distillery tours with your hotel’s help. Calling or e-mailing a distillery (particularly smaller ones like Tequila Fortaleza) ahead of time is recommended.
