‘No Reservations’ in Boston

Anthony Bourdain, host of The Travel Channel’s popular food and travel show “No Reservations,’’ spent a few days in Boston in 2011 soaking up the culture of South Boston and other surrounding neighborhoods. Here’s a roundup of where Bourdain and crew spent their time in Boston. “No Reservations’’ will air its series finale on Monday, Nov. 5 on The Travel Channel.

Michael’s Deli

<br>After doing an interview with Howie Carr, the crew headed to Michael’s Deli in Brookline’s Coolidge Corner neighborhood along with Carr to sample the sandwich named after the WRKO radio host. The “Howie Carr’’ features three-quarters of a pound of corned beef and beef brisket on a roll. While at Michael’s, Carr also outlined the 16-year search for fugitive Boston gangster James “Whitey’’ Bulger.<br>

The Galley Diner

<br>Joined by Massachusetts native Mike Ruffino, former bassist for The Unband, and author of “Gentlemanly Repose: Confessions Of A Debauched Rock & Roller,’’ Bourdain and crew made their way to Belle Isle Seafood in East Boston. The seafood shack is often mentioned as having the best lobster roll in the city.<br>

<br>In the heart of East Broadway lies South Boston Candlepin, where Bourdain and crew took in some New England-style bowling. South Boston Candlepin has been in existence since 1952.<br>

Greenhills Irish Bakery

<br>One morning, Bourdain and Ruffino met at Dorchester’s Greenhills Irish Bakery, where the host was introduced to the bakery’s popular breakfast sandwich which boasts Irish or American bacon, Irish sausage, white and black pudding, and a scrambled egg on a submarine roll.<br>

<br>Ruffino and Bourdain made their way to Eire Pub to meet up with a former band member of The Unband, Mink Rockmoore. The Eire is most noted in local lore for being a presidential campaign destination for some candidates over the years including Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton.<br>

<br>Bourdain and the crew delved into steak and cheese sub sandwiches at Rondo’s in South Boston. Bourdain also participated in a live, online chat with viewers and fans at Rondo’s while he was here in January, a webcast that continued at the crew’s next stop.<br>
