The Tip: what to expect if you’re bumped from a flight
Have you been involuntarily bumped from an overbooked flight? (Not unusual these days when airlines commonly overbook to fill planes.) According to new rules, airlines must get you on another flight, of course. But, in addition, if they get you to your destination (or first stopover) more than an hour later than the original flight, you are entitled to 200 percent of the one-way fare, up to $650. If you arrive more than two hours late, you can receive 400 percent of your fare, up to $1,300.
