5 ways to avoid crime during the Games

1) BE STREET SMART
Avoid pickpockets. Women, wear your purse slung across your chest rather than on your shoulder. Men, put a rubber band around your wallet to create resistance against your pants.
2) BE ALERT
Keep an eye on your personal belongings at all times. Limit fancy jewelry or handbags so you are less of a target.
3) KEEP A CLOSED DOOR POLICY
Don’t open your hotel door for someone you don’t know. When leaving your room for the day, keep your hotel key with you and hang a “Do Not Disturb’’ sign on the door so others think it is occupied.
4) MIX UP YOUR MONEY
Have some British pounds on hand as well as credit cards. Do not use an ATM machine if someone is standing nearby. Keep extra cash or credit cards stored in the hotel safe.
5) PROTECT YOUR PASSPORT
Keep a few copies in different places, including a photo stored on your phone. Make sure you have the US Embassy contact information.
