The snow belt
Meteorologists say that an inch of rain equals a foot of snow. Last night’s storm supports that. While it rained one to two inches in Boston, and much of New England, the northern mountains were hammered with snow.
How far do you have to go to cross the line back to winter? Check out our conditions map http://boston.snocountry.com/ and you can see the Snow Belt, and the resorts that were belted with snow. In Maine, Saddleback and Sugarloaf both have received over a foot of freshies. In New Hampshire, The Balsams was the big breadwinner with 15 inches and still dumping. In Vermont, Jay Peak claims 24 inches of snow and still counting. Sugarbush, Stowe, and Smugglers are all making out like bandits hoarding the white stuff while southern Vermont didn’t get the goods.
March is the month to ski, temperatures warm up, the sun stays out longer, and the snow has been stacking up all season long. But March is also the month to consult the forecast since elevation and location (north versus south) can play a big role in your big ski day.
