Skiing launches first interactive issue

Like many, we wondered how Skiing Magazine would succeed by moving to a mostly-digital platform this fall. Well, we have the first edition in our hands, so to speak, and the results are intriguing, if not a bit hollow.
Skiing Interactive has a dynamic look and feel, but little depth. There’s a fair amount of information here about resorts, gear, some cool instructional video, and the ads are a shining example of how web advertising should be produced, with interesting content and interactive information about your brand. But there’s little reading to be done here, Skiing’s normally-compelling articles sacrificed in the name of web simplicity. The presentation is slick and cutting-edge, but the content could be deeper.
Check out the first issue, free of charge, here. It’s a captivating start. Skiing promises new issues every three weeks, with increased frequency in early 2011.
