One of the best places on the planet to get down on one knee is at a scenic lighthouse in Maine, according to Conde Nast Traveler.

The travel publication recently named the best places to propose around the world and Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine made the list of 32 spots — one of just three in the U.S. (the other two are Artist Point in Yosemite National Park and Cypress Gardens near Charleston).

“Getting engaged is one of those moments you’ll never forget, so you want to make it as memorable as possible — which is why popping the question while on holiday could be the answer,” wrote the publication.

Portland Head Light, located on the shores of Fort Williams Park, feels like “the last corner of the Earth,” wrote Conde Nast Traveler, where “waves crash against the rocks below as they meet their maker after rippling through the vast Atlantic, birds circle overhead and squawk into the never-ending distance, and sunsets cast tangerine splashes against the towering beacon.”

Portland Head Light was named the most beautiful lighthouse in New England by Boston.com readers. The lighthouse tower is open to the public on Maine Open Lighthouse Day, taking place this year on Sept. 13.

Other destinations on CNT’s list include Pyrgos Castle in Santorini, Greece; Turtle Island in Fiji; Slieve League Cliffs in Ireland; and Villa Cimbrone Gardens on Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
