A guide to New England’s theme parks and water parks 

Find out which ones are opening this month.

Theme parks and water parks across the region continue opening this spring as coronavirus restrictions ease.

Water Country in Portsmouth, N.H., opened this past weekend, Cape Cod Inflatable Park in West Yarmouth opens Friday, Water Wizz in East Wareham opens Saturday, and Great Wolf Lodge New England in Fitchburg will open on June 24.

“After more than a year, we’re extremely excited to welcome families back to Great Wolf Lodge New England and get families back to having fun together at our resort,” said Murray Hennessy, chief executive officer for Great Wolf Resorts, in a statement.

Massachusetts

Wicked Waves Waterpark in West Yarmouth, which includes Cape Cod Inflatable Park, opens for the season June 13. The complex offers a dry park, challenge park, and H20 water park.

Water Wizz in East Wareham, billed as Southern New England’s largest outdoor water park, will open June 7. Tickets are on sale now. Water Wizz features “high-thrill” slides like its signature “Pipeline Plunge,” as well as calmer activities for young ones like waterfalls and pools. You might recognize the park from the 2010 comedy with Adam Sandler, “Grown Ups.”

Great Wolf Lodge New England in Fitchburg is home to one of North America’s largest indoor waterparks, and the resort also has many other attractions. It has an arcade, a ropes course, mini golf, and more. 

Six Flags New England, the region’s largest theme park, and its water park Hurricane Harbor, opened April 6. The park has many themed events throughout the season, including Star-Spangled Nights for the Fourth of July and an Oktoberfest celebration in late September/October.

The Margaritaville Resort Cape Cod in Hyannis, previously the Cape Codder Resort, features an indoor waterpark and an outdoor pool. The resort is also opening a new spa this week.

Water Park of New England (formerly CoCo Key Water Park) is an indoor water park in Danvers. The resort offers day passes and overnight accommodations and is open year-round.

New Hampshire

Water Country in Portsmouth, N.H., which is billed as New England’s largest water park, opens for the season on June 7, and season passes and day tickets are on sale now with an opening sale discount.

Whale’s Tale Waterpark in Lincoln, N.H., will open June 14. The park features various water rides, as well as “Surfside at Whale’s Tale,” a flowboarding venue, which is a wave simulation for surfing. Give it a shot and take a lesson.

Story Land in Glen, N.H., opened May 24. The theme park brings fairy tales and children’s stories to life through a selection of rides and live performances. Look out for Story Land’s weekend events throughout the seasons, including its 21+ “Nostalgia Nights.”

Santa’s Village in Jefferson, N.H., opened May 24. The park is a North Pole-themed experience, with family rides and a waterpark. Visit the park during one of its festival weekends or special events, like “Holly Jolly Halloween” in October.

Canobie Lake Park in Salem, N.H., and its Castaway Island Water Park is open every day starting June 4. Tickets are for sale online only and cannot be purchased at the park. The park has over 85 rides and attractions for all ages.

Maine

Funtown Splashtown USA, home to Maine’s only wooden rollercoaster, opens May 24. The park, located in Saco, Maine has a ride section and waterpark section with thrill rides and family-friendly rides.

Connecticut

Crocodile Cover at Lake Compounce in Bristol, Conn., opened May 31. The amusement park has already opened for the season, featuring roller coasters like the “Wildcat” that has been at the park for almost 100 years.

Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, Conn., is open on weekends, and its Splash Away Bay waterpark opens May 23. The parks are a mix of water rides, rollercoasters, games, swimming, and more. 

Vermont

Pump House Indoor Waterpark at popular ski resort Jay Peak Resort in Jay, Vermont, is open. Whether you’re looking to beat the heat in the summer or take a break from the slopes in the winter, the park is open year round.
