Airbnb users are showing summertime love for two beach getaways in New England.
Airbnb released a worldwide list of top 10 trending beach destinations to beat the end of summer heat and included New Shoreham, R.I. and Portland, Maine.
Beach vacations are the number one choice of travelers right now, with nearly half of respondents naming the beach as their top destination type, noted Airbnb, referring to a recent poll conducted by Panterra.
Block Island has become “a standout destination in the Northeast,” wrote Airbnb, with searches increasing nearly 160% this summer over last summer for New Shoreham.
“Guests can bike along dune-lined roads to the North Lighthouse, spot seals, and enjoy quiet beaches like Mansion and Coast Guard Beach,” wrote Airbnb. “Sleepy in the off-season but buzzing with summer energy, this laid-back island pairs postcard-perfect scenery with the simple joy of birds, beaches, and bikes.”

For Portland, Airbnb searches are up nearly 20% over last year, according to the report.
“Whether strolling the mile-long sands at Crescent Beach State Park, exploring the tidepools at Higgins Beach, or taking in classic lighthouse views at Fort Williams Park, each beach offers its own slice of Maine’s coastal magic,” wrote Airbnb.
Other destinations on the list include Palermo, Italy; Hossegor, France; and Big Bear Lake, Calif.
