What better way to while away the winter days than by planning a future beach getaway, and a sandy stretch in Maine is a top-notch choice for beach adventures this year, say Tripadvisor users.

Needham-based Tripadvisor released a list of the 25 best beaches in the U.S. as part of its annual Travelers’ Choice Awards on Wednesday, and Ogunquit Beach in Maine ranked No. 22.

The winners span eight states and Ogunquit Beach was the only New England beach on the list.

Here’s what Tripadvisor wrote about Ogunquit Beach:

Ogunquit Beach is a spacious, family-friendly spot that rarely gets too crowded. Its peaceful atmosphere makes it a great choice for a relaxing beach day. Go surfing, sunbathe, or take a dip in the inviting water. It’s accessible, plus there’s ample parking and easy access to nearby shops and restaurants.

The No. 1 beach in the U.S. is Ka’anapali Beach in Maui, Hawaii. Hawaii has 10 beaches on the top 25 list and two in the top 10.

The winning beaches were determined based on the quality and quantity of reviews and ratings from Tripadvisor users over a 12-month period from Oct. 1, 2022 through Sept. 30, 2023.
