Skiers and riders at New Hampshire’s Bretton Woods have been riding a new high-speed lift this week.

New Hampshire’s largest ski area unveiled the BEQ II on Saturday, affectionately known as “Becky.” The high-speed, four-person Leitner-Poma detachable quad lift replaced the original Bethlehem Express Quad, which transported skiers and riders for more than 35 years.

“It’s great news for skiers and riders,” said Celine McArthur, spokesperson for Bretton Woods, in a video posted on the website. “This high-speed quad is your gateway to even more terrain during these fantastic early-season conditions.”

The lift, which transports 1,800 people per hour, helps reduce wait times, improves slope access, provides an improved beginner experience, and increases lift capacity, according to the resort.

What’s more, a new black diamond glade named “Mom Said No” has been added between Upper Swoop and Upper Express. The trail “adds an exciting challenge for advanced skiers and snowboarders,” according to the resort.

The season is off to a strong start, according to officials, with 37 inches of total snowfall and base depths ranging from 14 to 36 inches. The Midway Terrain Park opened on Thursday, and on Friday, 4 lifts (including the scenic Skyway Gondola) and 36 trails were open.

Bretton Woods is located near the historic Omni Mt. Washington Hotel and offers 468 acres of skiing and riding, 10 lifts, 63 trails, 36 glades, and a vertical drop of 1,500 feet. The 52-year-old ski area is well known for its famous view of Mount Washington and the Presidential Range. It was named among the top 30 ski resorts in the U.S. by Conde Nast Traveler and  the No. 1 ski resort in New Hampshire by Boston.com readers.
