New England ski mountains are rejoicing over recent snow and some are even breaking records.

Stowe Mountain Resort, which opens for the season on Friday, reported a record-breaking snow depth this week on Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak.

On Tuesday, Stowe officials said 16 inches fell in 48 hours, boosting the Mount Mansfield summit stake depth to 38 inches — which is 2 1/2 feet above normal and a record depth for this time of year. The mountain’s records go back to 1954.

Officials could barely contain their excitement.

“Thanks to Mother Nature for laying down a record deep snowpack for this time of year, and the incredible work of our snowmaking team, we are excited to announce that we plan to have over 50 trails open on Friday, totaling 20+ miles and 225 acres of terrain!” wrote Stowe officials on the resort’s website.

Jay Peak Resort in Vermont is calling this “a November to Remember” after getting a whopping 66 inches of snow over the past seven days, for a total of 93 inches so far this season. This is the most snow they’ve seen in November, prompting the resort to open this weekend, a week early, according to the resort’s website.

“Saturday? Looking like one of the best opening days we’ve had in years,” officials wrote.

Mount Washington in New Hampshire has seen more than a foot of new snow since Sunday, bringing its month-to-date snowfall to 60.4 inches, and it still has 11 more days to beat the November record of 86.6 inches, officials noted in a Wednesday post on X.

Killington in Vermont is reporting 11 inches of fresh snow over the past seven days. Killington, along with Sunday River in Maine, was the first major New England ski resort to open this season on Nov. 12. Sunday River is reporting three inches of snow over the last seven days.
