Skiers and riders in New Hampshire can squeeze in one last day on the slopes this weekend and save money to boot.

Black Mountain, New Hampshire’s oldest ski area, is offering $9 lift tickets on May 3 during its 90th birthday bash and final day of the season.

Visitors will enjoy live music, food and drink specials, fireworks, and an aprés ski party on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The ski area’s original closing date in April was extended and now it’s the only open mountain in New Hampshire after being the first in the state to close last year.

“We’ve been laying the groundwork for our longest season since day 1,” said Erik Mogensen, general manager of Black Mountain, in a statement. “We improved snowmaking systems, restored consistent summit access via the double chair, and rebuilt skier amenities/services. Now we’re planning for a closing date on May 3. It’s not an easy task for a southern-facing mountain with low elevation.”

The ski area has a lot to celebrate after Mogensen, managing director of Indy Pass and CEO of Entabeni Systems, bought Black Mountain this past fall with the intention of transitioning it to a community co-op. Before that, the ski area was in danger of closing for good.

Mogensen’s high-tech system at Black Mountain increases efficiency while competing with larger mountains in the Northeast, according to the Associated Press.

“We are going to have one heck of a party, celebrating the comeback of Black Mountain and the culture of skiing. Being open matters,” Mogensen said, in a statement.

The mountain has a summit elevation of 2,350 feet and offers skiing for all abilities across 140 acres, with 45 trails and five lifts.
