Welcome back to Scenic Six.
We went on a college tour in Boston with my daughter over the weekend and took the opportunity to revisit some spots on the Freedom Trail before grabbing lunch at the Beantown Pub. I never tire of Boston’s fascinating history and I’m glad my kids enjoy it too. This week, I’m sharing a Freedom Trail guide for those who are also interested in walking the city’s famous red brick path this season.

Walk the iconic Freedom Trail this season
I revisited parts of Boston’s Freedom Trail over the weekend with my daughter and decided it’s an activity that simply never gets old. The iconic 2 ½-mile trail connects 16 historical sites and attracts more than 4 million visitors annually. Don’t have time for the whole thing? United Airlines is rolling out a new seat in 2027 called Relax Row, a couch-like seat in the sky made up of three economy seats. When I asked readers if they want to try it out, more than 60% said yes. “The ability to stretch out and nap would be amazing!” wrote David from Billerica. A Maine beach just ranked among the best in the U.S.
Beach season is coming. If you’re visiting Acadia National Park in Maine, it’s well worth visiting Sand Beach, situated between granite cliffs along the Atlantic Ocean and named among the best beaches in America by Conde Nast Traveler. Check out why Sand Beach was praised by the travel publication.
Travel tips
- Six Flags New England is debuting a new rollercoaster this season called Quantum Accelerator, billed as New England’s only dual-launch straddle coaster. The Agawam park opens for season pass holders on April 11 and for all other guests on April 17.
- The Southern Vermont Homebrew Festival, founded in 2015, takes place this year on May 2 in downtown Bennington. The street-festival atmosphere features more than 30 homebrewers, an unlimited sampling of more than 125 unique beverages, food trucks, live music, and artisan vendors.
- FIFA has reduced hotel room bookings in World Cup cities, including Boston. Meet Boston, the city’s regional tourism bureau, shared information about how the city is responding.

- Gov. Maura Healey just announced how MBTA commuter rail riders can save money this June, July, and August. Summer savings initiatives include Free Summer Fridays, $1 “summer companion” fare, and more.
