Welcome back to Scenic Six.

Snow has finally fallen across the Boston area, but it’s nothing compared to what folks are seeing in ski country. Speaking of snow, you can step into “snow globe landscapes” this season at three regional spots that just ranked the best in the U.S. for snow lovers. This week, I’m also writing about the Brattleboro Festival of Miniatures in Vermont, a discounted getaway in Mystic, Conn., and more.

Snow lovers, here’s your next getaway

Seeking a snow globe experience this winter? Three New England destinations were just named among the best in America for snow lovers: Caribou, Maine; North Conway, N.H.; and Stowe, Vermont. I’ve visited two of the three (Caribou is on my list!) and they definitely have a winter-wonderland feel. North Conway, by the way, was named the best ski town in America.

Local skiers and riders sound off on safety bars

Skiers and riders nationwide are “weird” about using the safety bar on chairlifts, according to Ski magazine. But it turns out New Englanders are a safety-conscious bunch. When I asked readers if they use the bar, 84% said absolutely. Speaking of chairlifts, there’s a new one spinning at Bretton Woods in N.H. and the president of Wachusett Mountain apologized for the delayed opening of that mountain’s new lift this month.

Make your holidays even brighter by wandering through half a million lights and enjoying family-friendly activities, sweet treats, and shopping at Night Lights at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in Boylston, just named the best botanical garden holiday lights display in America. It’s happening through Jan. 4, 2026.

Travel tips

Head to Brattleboro, Vermont this holiday season, where 90 storefront windows have been transformed into magical miniature worlds for “The Brattleboro Festival of Miniatures.” Restaurants are even offering mini menus. Catch it all through Dec. 31.

North Conway, renowned for its skiing and snow, is hosting a New Year’s Night Out. Many of the activities are free and include two fireworks displays, a vintage train ride, a village-wide scavenger hunt, and more.
