This week marks the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, so I’m sharing some of the free and exciting programs happening in and around Boston over Patriots Day weekend. Plus, get info about spring and summer airfare deals, a “hidden gem” getaway in Maine, the Southern Vermont HomeBrew Festival, and more.
There is zero reason for staying in this long holiday weekend as Massachusetts hosts many exciting and free Patriots Day celebrations, ranging from historical reenactments to block parties to parades to drone shows. What’s more, the 129th Boston Marathon takes place on Monday. Here are the best things to do in the city over marathon weekend courtesy of a local concierge.
A new museum will open in Boston next summer. The Museum of American Finance will open in the Seaport in July of 2026, where visitors can learn all about our nation’s financial history through exhibits, programs, and public events. Among the museum’s collection: 18th century U.S. financial documents from Alexander Hamilton.
Looking for a spectacular small town getaway? Castine, Maine, was recently named the best small town in the Northeast by USA Today, which called it a “hidden gem” on the Maine coast, rich with history and 18th-century architecture. I’m definitely adding this to my list of places to visit.
I’ll leave you with another travel gem from reader Tommy Z, who caught a giant sea tortoise “catching some sun” on a black sand beach while on vacation in Hawaii.
