Welcome back to Scenic Six.

The bitter cold temperatures this month require daydreaming about warm weather getaways, don’t you think? In that vein, I have info about summer camping reservations at DCR parks this season, spring break deals on flights, and why your springtime road trips should include two local towns just named among America’s best.

Time to book your summer camping reservations at DCR parks

A new year means new possibilities for camping adventures. Reservations recently opened for camping at Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) parks statewide during the 2025 season. My kids have been asking about going camping this summer. What’s better than relaxing by a fire and roasting marshmallows underneath a starry sky?

Save money in Boston this March

As we welcome the month of March and the arrival of spring (hooray!), there are plenty of ways to have free fun across the city of Boston both inside and out. There’s free live music, fun museum and book store programs, and, of course, Boston’s iconic St. Patrick’s Day Parade happening on March 16.

Explore two of America’s best small towns this spring

Who’s ready for a spring road trip? Rockport, Mass. and Tamworth, N.H. were just named among America’s best small towns for 2025. While I haven’t yet been to Tamworth (adding it to my list!), I can vouch for beautiful Rockport where I have explored the unique shops and galleries on Bearskin Neck as well as Halibut Point State Park. The town clerk there once told me that Rockport is “Massachusetts at its best.”

Travel Tips

  • Attention maple lovers: Vermont’s Maple Open House Weekend is slated for March 22-23. Map out your sugarhouse visits and get ready for lots of maple-filled activities and tastings (think sugar on snow and maple creemees).
  • For those whose mindset is still very much on winter, there are many fun nighttime ski events taking place on New England’s slopes this season that include glow items, drink specials, fire pits, live music, and more.
  • The Providence Winter Farmers Market in Providence, R.I., billed as the largest indoor farmers market in New England, is offering the wares of local farms and vendors on Saturdays through April 26.

Deals & Steals

  • Black Mountain of Maine in Rumford is helping skiers save money with Free Ski Nights this winter, thanks to area business sponsors. The remaining free nights are on Wednesdays from 5 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 26, March 5, and March 12.
  • Guests can avoid peak summer rates and save more than $500 per night by booking a May getaway at the five-star Wequassett Resort and Golf Club in Harwich. What’s more, the newly renovated hotel is offering a celebratory bottle of wine and a $100 resort credit to guests who book the Celebrate the New Wequassett package.
  • Those eyeing spring break trips can book roundtrip flights right now on the travel app Going from Boston to Barbados for $321 for getaways in March through May, a 50 percent savings, and from Boston to Hawaii for $419 on getaways in March and April, a 48 percent savings.

I’ll leave you with this photo of the Boston Harbor taken by Kristiana Dreaden.
