Welcome back to Scenic Six.

I’ve got the scoop on Boston’s new Museum of Ice Cream, opening in December, where visitors can slide into a pool of sprinkles and try lobster-flavored ice cream. Also, skiers and riders are officially back in action on New England’s slopes, so now’s the time to find out about ticket deals that will help make the season more affordable.

A Museum of Ice Cream is opening in the Seaport

At Boston’s Museum of Ice Cream, opening Dec. 14 in Seaport, visitors will taste ice cream, explore a Chipwich living room and Hallway of Freezers, and slide into a pool of sprinkles.

“It’s a dream come true to come to Boston,” Manish Vora, the museum’s co-founder, told me. He can’t wait for visitors to check out exhibits such as Fun Way Park, an ice cream carnival version of the iconic Fenway Park.

It’s officially ski season in New England

Two of New England’s largest ski resorts could hardly contain their excitement on Thursday when posting opening day announcements signaling the start of the 2024/25 ski season. “It’s time to kick off winter!” wrote Maine’s Sunday River on its website. “The day you’ve been waiting for is here!” wrote Vermont’s Killington on Facebook. New Hampshire’s Bretton Woods opened on Saturday and Vermont’s Jay Peak will open Nov. 29. Do you typically ski in November?

A coastal Maine hotel named a surprisingly good getaway for kids

How does seaside scavenger hunts and nightly s’mores around the fire sound for your next family getaway? You’ll find that and more at Cliff House in Cape Neddick, Maine, recently named among 10 surprising family-friendly getaways in the U.S. by Thrillist. The hotel was called one of the nation’s “hidden gems” for families vacationing with children.

Travel tips

Deals and Steals

  • Snag discounted ski tickets at several regional mountains right now. For example, Vermont’s Magic Mountain is selling a special card that slashes prices on every trip this season and other mountains, such as Ragged in N.H. and Jay Peak in Vermont ,have deals on four packs of tickets.
  • Get two free tickets to see Irving Berlin’s “Holiday Inn” at City Theater in Biddeford, Maine (a $60 value) when you book a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday stay at The Lincoln Hotel in Biddeford between Dec. 6-22.
