A 19th century Salem getaway is one of the best vacation rentals on the planet, according to Airbnb users.

The Mason Suite of Salem is among the site’s top 1 percent of rentals worldwide.

The online marketplace for rentals recently launched a new system for determining the site’s top listings, by marking them with a golden trophy and Guest Favorites badge. Eligible listings must have at least five reviews in the past two years to qualify and the top listings are determined based on ratings, reviews, and reliability.

This is what Airbnb wrote about the Salem property, where up to four guests can stay in a private third floor suite with a back entrance and winding staircase:

This 177-year-old Greek Revival brick home, nestled among Salem’s most prized architecture, is walkable to all the best Salem has to offer including the Witch Museum, pedestrian mall, and Salem Common.

If a property is among the top 10 percent, it is indicated on the listing page and above the reviews. It is also noted if the property is ranked within the top 5 percent or top 1 percent.

Salem, the historic, seaside city that’s become synonymous with Halloween, welcomes more than half a million tourists during October for its month-long Haunted Happenings. The seaside city was named among the best places to travel worldwide in October by Conde Nast Traveler and its History & Hauntings of Salem Guided Walking Tour was named the No. 1 cultural and historical tour in America by Tripadvisor users.

Other getaways in the top 1 percent include an artistic loft in Spain, a converted barn in Ireland, and a cottage in Mississippi.
