A N.H. destination was just named among the nation’s most affordable state park escapes in 2025

Travelers pay about $50 for accommodations per night.

A scenic state park in New Hampshire is among the most affordable in the nation, according to HomeToGo.

The vacation rental marketplace released its 2025 State Park Index, which ranks the 100 most beautiful and affordable state parks in the U.S., and Franconia Notch State Park ranked No. 3. It is the only New England park on the list.

The list of parks are “America’s most spectacular outdoor getaways that won’t drain your vacation budget,” wrote HomeToGo. A score of up to 10 points was awarded the parks in each of the following categories: affordability, size, trails, wildlife, scenery, and “hidden gem” status for a total of 60 points.

The top-scoring park in the U.S. is Ohiopyle State Park, known for its natural waterslides and the scenic Youghiogheny River. It scored a total of 53.11. Franconia Notch State Park scored a total of 52.56.

Tucked into the White Mountains and characterized by granite cliffs, winding trails, and deep glacial pools, this park packs drama into every vista. Franconia Notch is a natural gateway to some of New England’s most awe-inspiring peaks and waterfalls.

Franconia Notch State Park scored highest for its scenery (a 9.69) and lowest for its wildlife (a 7.59). It scored 9.41 for its size, 9.36 for its trails, 8.53 for its hidden gem status, and 7.98 for its affordability. The median price per person per night for HomeToGo accommodations near the park between July 15 and Dec. 31 is $50.08, according to the report.

Visitors to Franconia Notch State Park this summer and fall will be among the last to ride the iconic aerial tram at Cannon Mountain, which is being retired after 45 years.
