Soccer fans still searching for accommodations while attending World Cup games in Boston this summer can go camping.
Boston is one of 16 cities hosting World Cup games and Massachusetts is hosting seven games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, temporarily rebranded as Boston Stadium. The dates of the matches are June 13, 16, 19, 23, 26, 29 and July 9.
Canoe River Campground in Mansfield, about 7 miles from Boston Stadium, currently has availability during the dates of the World Cup matches, according to a spokesperson. The campground sits on 34 acres surrounding Mill Pond and has nearly 300 sites.
On weekdays, guests can stay for one night on any type of site, but on weekends there is a two-night minimum. Daily rates range from $51 tent sites to $187 cabin sites. The cabins sleep six people. Guests must be 21 or older to make a reservation, noted the spokesperson.
Jellystone Park Cranberry Acres in Carver, about 40 miles from Boston Stadium, currently has campsites available during World Cup dates, including glamping cabins and RV sites, according to a spokesperson. The campground sits on about 60 acres and has more than 200 sites.
The periods of June 13-19 and July 8-10 have more than 100 sites available, according to the spokesperson, and there are still sites available for between June 23-26, though not as many.
The RV sites start at $140 per night and the glamping cabins sleep four and start at $300 per night night, according to the spokesperson. Guests can also rent larger units, such as the Boo Boo Bungalow, which sleeps eight.
“Staying at a Jellystone Park is a great, economical way to turn a soccer trip into a full vacation packed with attractions, activities, and character visits,” said Trent Hershenson, vice president of marketing, in a statement. “The cost of a cabin that comfortably sleeps the whole family and comes with a full kitchen and bathroom compares very favorably to a standard hotel room. Plus, most activities and attractions are included in your cabin or site rental, and you save on eating out.”
Boston hotels are increasing pricing and programming during the World Cup games this summer and the Liberty Hotel has unveiled a $75K World Cup ultra-luxe package. FIFA has reduced hotel bookings in World Cup cities, including in Boston, because original estimates were inflated, according to Meet Boston.
