Thrill seekers can board the region’s only dual-launch straddle coaster at Six Flags New England in Agawam this season.

The Quantum Accelerator, first announced in 2024, will debut in April. Riders on the 2 minute and 14 second ride themed around steampunk influences and time travel board the coaster and lean forward while straddling a hover bike and holding onto handlebars.

The coaster features two launches: the first takes riders from zero to 30 miles per hour out of the station and the second is mid course and accelerates riders to 45 miles per hour. Other features include high-speed turnarounds, 11 airtime moments, and a stengel dive, which takes riders over a hill and quickly tilts beyond 90 degrees at the top.

The ride is 2,604 feet long and reaches a height of 59 feet. It can carry 850 riders per hour.

“Quantum Accelerator brings a new level of excitement to the park and to the region,” Bill Falzone, park manager, said in a statement. “We’re proud to add this coaster to our attraction lineup as it represents our park’s commitment to delivering unmatched thrills, immersive entertainment and lifelong memories.”

Quantum Accelerator is the twelfth rollercoaster for Six Flags New England and the newest since The Joker debuted in 2017. The 200-acre park features over 100 rides, shows, and attractions as well as the region’s largest water park.

The park opens for season pass holders on April 11 and for all other guests on April 17.
