The scare factor is off the charts at six New England attractions this Halloween season, according to FrightFind.

The website, which finds and reviews the scariest attractions in the nation, released a 2024 list of the top haunted attractions in every U.S. state and included Barrett’s Haunted Mansion in Abington, Mass.; Legends of Fear in Shelton, Conn.; Haunted Grandview Manor in Lebanon, Maine; Haunted Overload in Lee, N.H.; 13th World in Cumberland, R.I.; and Nightmare Vermont in Essex Junction, Vermont.

At Barrett’s Haunted Mansion, the Game Master is a kidnapper who puts visitors in “dangerous” situations where they must navigate mazes and hideouts and endure physical and psychological trials in order to live, according to the website.

“This is one of the most exciting and terrifying haunted attractions that you will visit,” FrightFind wrote. “Get ready to be scared like you’ve never been before.”

At Legends of Fear in Connecticut, guests can board a “chilling” Haunted Hayride that brings guests on journey through 30 “terrifying” scenes in dark woods and fields with 70 actors taking part in the scare, according to the site.

While visiting Haunted Grandview Manor in Maine, visitors encounter demented clowns, witches drenched in blood, and more. The scenes are so unsettling that “an explicit rule allows any visitor to exit at any moment due to sheer terror,” FrightFind wrote.

FrightFind called Haunted Overload in New Hampshire one of the most creative haunted attractions in the country because it is an authentic farm in the middle of a dark forest that “makes visitors feel as if they are really on haunted land.”

At 13th World in Rhode Island, visitors can wear a special necklace, for a fee, that gives permission for zombies and monsters to make contact with them.

Finally, the site called Nightmare Vermont “a thrilling journey into the supernatural” that makes visitors experience “exhilarating fear.”
