Hotels and resorts with superb dining and activities make vacation more enjoyable, and two New England properties are doing it best, according to USA Today readers.

USA Today released its lists of the best hotels and resorts in America on Wednesday. Chatham Bars Inn in Chatham is the country’s No. 1 waterfront resort, and Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine, is the No. 1 destination resort. The lists are part of the publication’s 2024 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

“The best hotels and resorts offer a variety of amenities, activities, and dining options to ensure you have a stellar experience,” USA Today wrote.

Cape Cod‘s Chatham Bars Inn in Chatham has a quarter-mile private beach and views of the Atlantic Ocean. It has been welcoming guests since 1914.

“With 25 landscaped acres, poolside and beachfront cabanas and lounges, cottages, and six on-site dining options, there’s a lot to enjoy,” the publication wrote. “Settle into an Adirondack chair, stroll into town, or get out on the water to watch the whales.”
