These three Maine hotels are great bargains, according to TripAdvisor
Maine is known for its lobsters, blueberries, and perhaps now, low-cost hotels. Three of them appear on TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice 2017 Best Bargain Hotels, the travel site’s recently released list of the 25 best bargain stays in the country. Using user-based data from millions of reviews and ratings collected during 2016, the site compiled their findings for the 15th year to honor more than 7,000 hotels globally. The Edgewater Motel & Cottages in Bar Harbor, Maine, was named to spot No. 16. At the waterfront hotel, located only 2.5 miles from Acadia National Park, room rates change seasonally and start at $82 a night. All motel rooms feature a flat screen TV and sliding glass doors that open up to a balcony with reclining chairs.Sleepy Time Motel in Auburn, Maine, was awarded spot No. 19. Room rates range from only $85 to $99 a night. Each room features a refrigerator, microwave, complimentary coffee, and cozy recliners. The hotel is equally accessible to city life (it’s within driving distance of Portland) and nature (it developed its own system of hiking trails called “Sleepy Hollow”).The Claddagh Motel & Suites in Rockport, Maine, nabbed spot No. 20. The seaside stay, which aims to provide “Irish hospitality” in the Pine Tree State, sports colored walls and decor and white picket fences, and serves traditional tea and breakfast. Guests receive private access to a neighboring beach. The hotel is open April through November, and rooms start at $74 a night.
