A Steamship Authority ferry is out of commission and vehicle reservations are on hold, the company announced on Tuesday.
The M/V Nantucket was pulled from service for “unanticipated repairs” and has been replaced by M/V Katama, according to the company.
“Water was found in the vessel voids and it needs to be taken to Fairhaven for further evaluation,” Sean Driscoll, communications director for the Authority, told Nantucket’s The Inquirer and Mirror.
Due to the change, online booking on the Hyannis-Nantucket route is unavailable through Nov. 17.
“The M/V Katama may not be able to accommodate all booked vehicles due to size limitations,” the company posted on Facebook. “Passenger cutoffs are also likely to occur, so please plan accordingly.”
The M/V Katama holds up to 150 people and 39 vehicles, while the M/V Nantucket holds up to 768 people and 50 vehicles, according to the Steamship Authority.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience,” wrote the company.
The Steamship Authority is the largest ferry service to the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket from Cape Cod.
