Thinking about planning that group trip? Amtrak just increased its group travel discount
The more the merrier.
If you’ve been considering taking your loved ones for a trip on the tracks, doing so could save you a few bucks.
Amtrak announced last week that its “Share Fares” deal will now accommodate groups of up to six guests traveling on the same itinerary, compared to the previous version for up to four guests that was introduced in April.
The ongoing promotion supplies larger discounts as the number of passengers increases. In other words, the first traveler’s ticket is full price, the second’s is 15 percent off, the third’s is 60 percent off, and additional travelers enjoy 70 percent off. All in all, the deal equates to 45 percent off the price for a group of six.
The deal can be used on popular routes around the country, including the Amtrak Northeast Regional between Boston and Washington D.C., as well as the Lake Shore Limited, which can take travelers from South Station to Chicago. The promotion cannot be used for tickets on the Acela Express.
Tickets are valid for coach seats only, and must be reserved at least two days in advance. The deal cannot be combined with any other offer.
