There’s no doubt that Massachusetts is home to some of the most iconic summer vacation spots. But now National Geographic has singled out two Bay State beaches as the best for families who want to spend quality time by the sea.

Coast Guard Beach in Eastham took the top spot on the publication’s list of Top Ten Family Beaches in the United States. Crane Beach in Ipswich came in at No. 8.

“For the classic Cape Cod vacation, head to Coast Guard Beach, boundless miles of sand and surf on the Cape Cod National Seashore,” the magazine said of the top pick.

During your visit, National Geographic suggests checking out free programs such as beach yoga and campfire nights at the Salt Pond Visitor Center. Nearby bike rentals, the availability of fresh seafood, and mini-golf are also part of the beach’s appeal for family activities.

At Crane Beach, hiking trails, nearby garden tours, and fresh clams are part of the charm, according to the magazine.

“Calm waters, warm tidal pools, and on-site amenities such as a snack bar featuring homemade sandwiches and fresh salads make this an ideal destination for families,” the publication said.
