A suitcase started smoking while getting screened at Logan

Smoke began pouring out of a suitcase at Logan airport Saturday when it was getting screened by security personnel.
The incident led to the evacuation of a checked baggage screening room for nearly an hour, as Massport Fire & Rescue and a state police bomb unit investigated the cause, according to the Transportation Security Administration.
It turned out a lithium battery in an e-cigarette caught fire, officials said.

The suitcase’s owner’s flight to Kansas City was delayed while authorities resolved the matter.
