It doesn’t look like mid-May at the summit of Mount Washington
New England's highest peak had a very snowy Mother's Day.
Sure, some parts of Vermont got up to 9 inches of snow Saturday night. But as reachers at the summit of New Hampshire’s Mount Washington woke up Sunday morning to an even snowier Mother’s Day
According to social media posts by the Mount Washington Observatory, accumulation at the summit had reached nearly 12 inches Sunday, with more expected to fall. Nevertheless, summit staff took advantage of the unseasonable weather to inscribe a Mother’s Day message in the snow.

Mount Washington is indeed notorious for its extreme weather. Yet the snowfall the summit received this weekend equaled its average for the entire month of May.
According to the National Weather Service, the mountain is expected to get another 4 to 8 inches Sunday night.
At least it wasn’t too windy.
