Hotel Commonwealth’s extension features a very Red Sox-themed room
The Hotel Commonwealth’s $55 million renovation and extension was opened to the public Tuesday.
The project was started in 2014, adding 96 swanky rooms and suites, 6,000 square feet of event space, and 142 parking spaces to the hotel, The Boston Globereports. Appropriately for the official hotel of the Red Sox, one suite – the Fenway Park Suite – features a #6 placard once used in the Green Monster scoreboard, vintage baseball cards of famous players, and of course, a view of the famed left field wall.
According to the Globe, Boston is one of the nation’s top five hotel markets. Room rates across the city have climbed 18 percent since 2012, and are projected to increase another 8 percent next year.
Hotel Commonwealth was originally used to house Boston University students, but since its sale in 2012, its proximity to Fenway Park, Boston University, and the Longwood Medical Area helped its occupancy rate, the Globe reports.
