The Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge along the Charles River is getting a makeover this summer and will reveal a new restaurant and state-of-the-art fitness center this fall.
The renovations include a redesign of the hotel’s entrance, lobby, and iconic atrium, upgraded technology, a new full service bar and restaurant, state-of-the-art fitness center — complete with Life Fitness equipment and Peloton bikes — and an overhaul of its 25,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space. The project does not involve guest rooms and suites, as they were renovated in 2019.
“We are so excited to infuse a new energy into the property and reintroduce the hotel to today’s traveler,” said Melissa Green, general manager of the hotel, in a statement. “Our position on the iconic Charles River paired with the redesign of our spaces and overall guest experience, will welcome guests and locals alike to rediscover, enjoy and ultimately return.”
A hotel publicist declined to provide the cost of the project.

Once complete, guests will arrive through a new entrance where upgraded perimeter lighting borders the hotel. The lobby and atrium will feature warm neutrals, rich leather accents, and customized art honoring local universities.
The hotel’s new restaurant, Paperback Tavern, will offer classic American food and “unrivaled views of the Charles River and city of Boston,” according to a hotel press release.

“A classic tavern with modern influence, the atmosphere will be fun and playful, making it an ideal social environment for events or gathering hub for local residents and scholars,” according to the hotel.
Paperback Provisions, a carryout market in the lobby, will offer guests a custom coffee bar, house made pastries, and other fast meal options.

The hotel’s 19 meeting venues, which includes three ballrooms and a pavilion, will be redone in neutral colors and light wood. They will be decorated with local themes such as the Charles River, Boston Harbor, and historical figures.
“Whether utilizing a ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows, the elegant courtyard, or the lush garden, business and social groups alike can count on a scenic backdrop of breathtaking river and Boston skyline views,” according to the press release.
Technology in the rooms will include audiovisual capabilities, a wireless technological platform, and a meeting concierge service.

Other technology upgrades include contactless check-in, a digital concierge for exploring the area, and access to real-time engagement with hotel staff through chat capabilities.
The hotel remains open during the renovation and officials did not provide a date for when the renovation will be complete this fall.
Correction: A previous version of this story mentioned a New England Patriots-themed meeting venue, but the room’s theme is historical figures. Boston.com regrets the error.
Editor’s note: The passkey reservation service is no longer part of the hotel’s plan, so that detail has been removed from this story.
