Many travelers are now paying more for checked bags on JetBlue.
The New York-based airline, a leading carrier at Logan Airport, just increased checked bag fees, citing rising operating costs. Checked bag fees were raised $4 during off-peak travel periods and $9 during peak travel periods for many economy passengers.
“Adjusting fees for optional services used by select customers, such as checked baggage, allows us to continue offering more competitive fares while delivering the onboard experience our customers love, including complimentary snacks and drinks, unlimited, high-speed Wi-Fi and seatback entertainment screens,” wrote JetBlue, in a statement shared with Boston.com. “While we recognize that fee increases are never ideal, we take careful consideration to ensure these changes are implemented only when necessary.”
For travel within the U.S., Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada, JetBlue customers now pay a minimum of $39 for for the first piece of checked luggage during off-peak periods, up from $35. For peak periods, customers now pay a minimum of $49, up from $40.
Travelers who pay for their checked bags within 24 hours before departure (such as at the airport) pay $10 more — $49 for off-peak and $59 for peak travel periods.
The peak travel dates, which includes Thanksgiving, winter holidays, and spring and summer travel seasons, are as follows:
April 2-27
May 21-25
June 11-30
July 1-31
Aug. 1-31

“As always, JetBlue Plus, JetBlue Business and JetBlue Premier Cardmembers will continue to receive their first checked bag free for the primary Cardmember and up to three travel companions when using their card to book JetBlue flights,” wrote JetBlue. “TrueBlue Mosaic members will also continue to enjoy one free checked bag for Mosaic 1, and two free checked bags for Mosaic 2, 3 and 4.”
Travelers can view all checked bag fee prices on JetBlue’s website.
JetBlue last increased checked bag fees in 2024.
