Swiss hospitality has landed in Boston.

Swiss International Air Lines’ new luxe Airbus A350-900 aircraft completed its inaugural intercontinental flight from Zurich to Boston on Nov. 20.

The plane features the airline’s new Swiss Senses product, a major upgrade in design and service for long-haul flights. The flight engages all the senses with seats that heat and cool, human centric lighting to help reduce jet lag, gourmet food, signature cocktails and scents, luxurious bedding, and state-of-the-art technology.

“It’s an exciting moment for our airport and for travelers experiencing this new standard of comfort and elevated service,” said Ed Feni, Massport’s executive director of aviation, in a statement.

Swiss Senses is comprised of four cabins: First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy.

The three suites in First Class are described as a “private sanctuary in the sky” by the airline. First class travelers can fly in the Single Suite, Suite Plus, and Swiss First Grand Suite.

The first class suites have lockable sliding doors, seats with heating and cooling systems, inflight entertainment tablets, signature lamps, wireless charging, a movable ottoman, solid wood dining tables, a separate cocktail table, a personal wardrobe, state-of-the-art headphones with noise canceling technology, and a large ultra-high-definition 32-inch 4K OLED screen.

The Suite Plus is described as a “private living room in the sky.” The Swiss First Grand Suite is made up of the Single Suite and Suite Plus, which are linked by a private aisle. Guests in that suite can sprawl out on a double bed.

During mealtime, first and business class travelers get “a top restaurant experience,” according to the airline.

Before departure, passengers receive apéro flûtes (light, flaky pastry sticks) from Confiserie Sprüngli, a famous Swiss chocolatier, along with a welcome drink of the traveler’s choice.

After take-off, travelers are served an amuse-bouche featuring meat, fish, and vegetarian bites, along with a beverage of choice. Then the first course brings a selection of cold delicacies (think fine meats, Balik salmon, seafood, and vegetarian specialties) presented on a trolley, followed by a gourmet main course (served on china, of course), seasonal sorbet, and a cheese course with five types of cheese and an expanded choice of breads. Then travelers receive a selection of pralines and more Sprüngli desserts, as well as afternoon tea.

For business class passengers, the full meal service now includes a soup course and an expanded range of cheeses and desserts.

A private wardrobe for passengers.

Travelers receive an amenity kit with luxury products and a signature scent. First class passengers are given pajamas and slippers by Zimmerli of Switzerland and business class passengers receive a Muntagnard sleepshirt on flights of more than 10 hours.

Travelers can choose from five different seat categories in the Business Class cabin, which is comprised of 45 seats: a Privacy Seat, Classic Seat, Extra Space Seat, Extra Long Bed Seat, and the Business Suite. The Extra Long Bed Seat offers a fully flat 2.2 meter bed, which the airline calls “one of the longest sleeping surfaces in the industry.”

The business class seats all have direct aisle access and can be converted into beds up to 7.2 feet long. Passengers in business class enjoy a state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system that features a 17.3-inch 4K OLED screen and a tablet for controlling the system.

Premium Economy features 38 upgraded seats and Economy Class features 156 upgraded seats. The seats have larger 13.3-inch HD screens, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB-A and USB-C ports.

In 2026, Swiss will gradually install Swiss Senses in its existing A330 fleet, and then in all of its Boeing 777s. By 2030, Swiss says all of its long-haul aircraft will be equipped with the new cabin.
